Moving away from tradition, this year’s excellence awards were held in the North. The Launceston Country Club Casino proved to be a perfect venue and tastec group training provided the industry with a remarkable awards night to celebrate the great achievements of Tasmania’s ‘best’ apprentices over 2009.
Valuable and committed sponsors, Aurora Energy, Transend Networks, CEPU, O Group, EE-OZ, Blackwoods, Members Equity, Connect, L&H Group, Middys, Nyrstar and Tasmanian Skills Institute supported a well-regarded night for the employment and training sector.
Gary Vidler, tastec group training’s Operations Manager set the scene for the event by inviting all finalists on the night onto the stage which was further highlighted by Heather Butler, Member for Lyons Parliamentary Secretary handing out individual framed certificates.
Throughout the course of the evening, winners were announced under each category and they were presented with Apple i-pods with the 4th year major award recipients receiving the Apple i-pod Touch for their outstanding efforts. Sponsors had the opportunity to present the awards on stage and meet the winners.
Special mention goes to Fabian Trueman for being granted a High Commendation Award for pressing through a difficult year and showing great courage. Fabian is currently completing his 4th year of his Electrical Apprenticeship and showing a positive attitude and revealing strong school results as well as great ability and craftsmanship in the workplace.
At the end of the night and with great suspense, the overall Apprentice/Trainee of 2009 was announced, being Tony Purton hosted by Aurora Energy. Thanks to Blackwoods, Tony received a toolkit to the value of $3k. This was a wonderful achievement for Tony as he has revealed outstanding qualities at only 2nd year. Tony’s host employer has been super impressed by his passion, dedication and helpful nature in all tasks he undertakes.
"As an apprentice I feel very provileged to be supported by a great team and again thank all concerned for recognising my skills, dedication and passion towards my electro-techonology trade", Tony shares.
tastec group training would like to congratulate all winners and finalists for 2009 and wish them all the best with more learning, growth and development for 2010.
