NAIDOC AWARDS 2010

Justin Roberts and Remzi Sahin were nominated for the IEP Participant Encouragement Award for their outstanding commitment and attitude towards their roles at RMIT University and Total Electrical Contracting. (Respectively)

The NAIDOC awards are held annually and are part of the week long celebrations of the people, history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Today’s awards ceremony was to focus on individuals and employers making a difference in the employment sector and to reward their outstanding contribution.

Justin was nominated by RMIT University and 370˚ group. Since commencing his IT Cadetship in May 2008, Justin has proven himself to be a dedicated and integral part of the IT Services team. He is quick to develop new skills and take on extra responsibilities and he is always willing to work additional hours to complete tasks and support his fellow colleagues. In addition, he has successfully completed a Certificate IV in Information Technology (Networking) and is currently halfway through his Diploma of Information Technology.

Remzi was nominated by his Field Officer and mentor, Rick Winkworth from 370˚group.  This was due to him being reliable on-the- job as well as working very well with supervisors and other tradesmen.  He is very interested in his job, helps out on every occasion and is seeking out more learning opportunities continually.  He is a pleasant person and a wonderful listener which makes him a great apprentice that people want to teach.

The judging panel received over 30 nominations for the category from across Victoria. Tough competition! Both Justin and Remzi received a special mention at the event, just missing out on the top prize. To receive special mention from the judges is a fantastic achievement. Well done to both young men!
