press release: sparks will fly at 370˚ skills centre official opening

SPARKS WILL FLY AT 370˚ SKILLS CENTRE OFFICIAL OPENING

Commonwealth Education Minister and Ford Performance Drivers Assist With Launch of Electrotechonology Training Centre

Wednesday the 24th March marks the official opening of the new $4 million 370˚ skills centre located in Brunswick. The state-of-the-art facility will be opened by Senator the Honourable Mark Arbib, Minister for Employment Participation, offering students an exciting new form of integrated learning.

To coincide with the Melbourne 2010 Grand Prix held the same week, L&H Auslec have made available Ford Performance Racing drivers Mark Winterbottom and Steve Richards who will speak about their apprenticeship experiences and inspiring all to take their careers further. Showcar V8 Supercar ‘Frosty’ will also make an appearance.

The opening of the new Electrotechnology Training Centre is focused on providing electrical pre-apprentice, apprentice and industry based courses in a combined learning forum. Each room is fitted with an interactive whiteboard, computers with internet access, and practical breakout areas providing students with a highly engaging environment and advanced learning opportunities.

This practical approach provides students with teacher led blended e-learning activities where hands-on application and theory are delivered in combination to enhance student engagement and in turn increased quality of apprentices.

Peter Parry, Training Manager for 370˚ skills centre, shares, “It allows us to tailor training towards new technologies which will be used by apprentices in the workplace. It also allows us to build a stronger link with our industry sector. We can deliver training to a geographically broader group of people. This will be achieved by using technology such as webinars and e-conferencing.”

“There will be greater access to e-learning technologies both desk based and mobile. This means that our students are able to access self-directed learning methodologies while still receiving the benefits of teacher facilitated and led sessions,” Peter states.

370˚ group is a leading not-for-profit training organisation specialising in the employment and training of electrical apprentices in Victoria and Tasmania.
