What do financial services trainees do?
Trainees work within the financial department (small, medium or large) of an organisation and will support the financial needs of the business. Some of the tasks performed may include:
- Maintaining financial records – MYOB, SAP, Excel
- Accounts receivable
- Accounts payable
- Debt recovery and consolidation
- Payroll
- Responding to customer enquires
- Client support and correspondence
- End of financial year requirements
- Credit control, banking
- General administrative duties - filing, lodging tax information, data entry

Financial trainees may be required to perform a variety of the tasks listed above in their role, or specialise in a particular area depending on the size of the organisation they join and if it is role specific. The qualification and skills gained can lead to further study and advancement opportunities within an organisation, or industry!

- Assistant Accountant
- Credit Controller
- Payroll Officer / Manager
How do I become a Financial Services trainee?
By demonstrating a strong interest to work within the industry, attending an interview with 370 degrees group and completing a skills assessment. Entry requirements may vary but employers generally require a minimum of year 11 and someone who has strong skills in math’s and good problem solving abilities. You will be required to complete both on and off the job components under a traineeship arrangement. The off-the-job training is provided through Registered Training Organisations (RTO’s).
Qualifying as a financial services traineeship involves:
- 12 months commitment
- Attending paid work with a ‘host employer’ for the duration of the traineeship
- Completing off-the-job training with an RTO
Ideal personal requirements are:
- Strong interest in the financial industry
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- Good math’s and problem solving abilities
- Able to work independently and as part of a team
