This qualification is part of the Metal and Engineering Training Package and is designed for metal fabrication apprentices. Students learn how to work with metal, and can specialise in a specific area.
Specialisations include:
- Sheet metal
- Ventilation and air-conditioning ducting
- Plate and structural sections
- Pressure vessels
- Forgoing of custom parts and welding

- Perform engineering measurements
- Perform computations
- Apply principles of OH&S in the work environment
- Plan to undertake a routine task
- Plan a complete activity
- Apply quality systems
- Apply quality procedures
- Organise and communicate information
- Work with others in a manufacturing, engineering or related environment
- Interact with computing technology
- Assist in the provision of on-the-job training.
Stream:
- Perform sheet and plate assembly
- Operate melting furnaces
- Produce polymer patterns
- Develop and manufacture vacuum forming moulds and associated equipment
- Carry out mechanical cutting, plus more.
Entry
A registered training agreement with the employer or registered with an Australian Apprenticeship Centre.
